Newly elected US President Joe Biden and US Vice President Kamala Harris, who will take office on January 20, have appointed members of the National Security Council. They have reintroduced a special department for Russia. This department will be headed by former CIA employee Andrea Kendall-Taylor.
This move can perhaps be interpreted as the Biden administration considering Russia a greater threat than it was during the Trump era. The former president's administration had the same direction for Russia and Europe. The appointment of a CIA employee in the Russia sector shows the direction things are moving.
Andrea Kendall-Taylor is described in the official statement as follows:
“She previously served as a senior intelligence officer, while simultaneously serving as the Deputy National Intelligence Officer for Russia and Eurasia at the National Intelligence Council within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and as a senior analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency. Kendall-Taylor also served as a senior fellow and director of the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security. Kendall-Taylor was born in San Diego and holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University. … She lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with her husband and three children,” the official statement reads.
