(Patria) - The American military conducted new attacks on Iran, targeting locations that US officials believe pose a threat to American forces and commercial maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, an unnamed US official confirmed to Reuters.
The official added that the US military also intercepted and shot down several Iranian drones that posed a similar threat.
Tehran's response followed shortly after. The Iranian armed forces announced that, in response to the American attack near Bandar Abbas airport, they targeted an American air base.
Foreign agencies report that an American base in Kuwait was attacked.
Amidst the conflict, contradictory information is also emerging about a possible peace agreement. Iranian state television announced that an "initial unofficial framework for a memorandum of understanding" has been drafted between the two sides. According to this draft, American forces would withdraw from the vicinity of Iran and lift the naval blockade of Iranian ports.
However, Washington has sharply denied such claims, calling them a "complete fabrication." In addition, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday dismissed reports by Iranian state media that Iran and Oman would jointly manage navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a peace agreement, stating that this key waterway would remain open.
