(Patria) - The US Air Force announced on Sunday that it will soon begin a multi-day readiness exercise across the Middle East "to demonstrate the ability to deploy, disperse, and maintain combat air power" in the region, amid heightened tensions with Iran, Al Arabiya reported.
"This exercise enhances peace through strength by posturing a credible, combat-ready, and responsive presence designed to deter aggression, reduce the risk of miscalculation, and reassure partners," said a statement from the US Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT).
Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated following the deadly crackdown on nationwide protests in which thousands of people have been killed and tens of thousands arrested.
US President Donald Trump has threatened military action if Iran continues to kill peaceful protesters or carry out mass executions of detainees.
This also comes as the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its accompanying warships are moving towards the region.
Trump said the ships were moving "just in case" he decided to take action.
US Central Command announced on social media that their F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets now have a presence in the Middle East, noting that the fighter jet "enhances combat readiness and promotes regional security and stability".
Similarly, the UK Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday that it had deployed its Typhoon fighter jets to Qatar "in a defensive capacity".
