American personnel wounded in attack on base in Iraq

(Patria) - Several people were injured in an attack on a military base in Iraq on Monday, three US officials told Reuters.

Officials, who wished to remain anonymous, said the rocket attack occurred at the Al Asad air base in Iraq. They said they were citing initial information that could change.

"Base personnel are assessing damage following the attack," one of the officials added.

Two Katyusha rockets were fired on Monday at the base in western Iraq, security sources said. One security source said the rockets fell inside the base.

Last week, the US carried out a strike in Iraq against individuals whom US officials said were militants preparing to launch drones and posing a threat to US and coalition forces.

The US is preparing for Iran to fulfill its vow to retaliate for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The Pentagon has said it will deploy additional fighter jets and warships to the Middle East as Washington seeks to bolster Israel's defenses following threats from Iran and its allies Hamas and Hezbollah.
