(Patria) - US Senator Chris Murphy joined the criticism of President Donald Trump's decision to attack Iran.
"I received intelligence last week. Iran did not pose an imminent threat of attack to the US," Murphy, a Democrat, said in a social media post.
"Iran was not close to building a nuclear weapon. The negotiations that Israel ruined with its attacks had the potential for success."
Other Democratic lawmakers have also questioned the legality of the attacks on Iran, noting that while presidents have the authority to respond to imminent threats, Trump has not yet explained what imminent danger Iran poses to the US, if any.
US aircraft targeted three nuclear facilities in Iran, and this country has announced that it will protect its sovereignty.
In his address to the nation, Trump stated that further attacks would follow if Iran retaliated against the US.
