(Patria) - The US Navy aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford has arrived in the eastern Mediterranean Sea as the United States continues to deploy additional forces to the region amid the latest Israeli-Palestinian escalation, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced, Tass reports.
"The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is arriving in the Eastern Mediterranean to deter any actor seeking to escalate the situation or expand this war," CENTCOM said in a statement.
"Efforts to increase US presence continue, including the rapid movement of US Air Force F-15, F-16, and A-10 aircraft to augment existing fighter squadrons in the region," the statement said.
General Michael Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, commented on the deployment, saying, "The arrival of these highly capable forces in the region is a strong signal of deterrence should any actor hostile to Israel consider attempting to exploit the situation.”
The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that the first plane with American ammunition had landed in Israel, agencies reported.
The United States had previously stated it would send new air defense supplies, ammunition, and other security assistance to its ally in its fight against Hamas militants.
US President Joe Biden had previously pledged delivered aid and announced additional aid in the coming period.
