US Elections 2020: Democratic Donors Raised Record Amounts on Saturday

(Patria) – Democrat-oriented donors set a new record for fundraising for the US elections following the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday.

In just 24 hours, more than 90 million dollars were raised for Democratic candidates and progressive groups.  

This amount, comprising 1.5 million donations, surpasses all previous records of the ActBlue organization for funds raised in one day and one hour.

On Saturday alone, 70.6 million dollars were raised, with 6.3 million in one hour on Friday, reported the fundraising organization.

The death of the legendary liberal justice Ginsburg, which occurred practically on the eve of the November elections, has spurred both the Democratic base and President Donald Trump's supporters into an even fiercer race. Namely, Trump's expected move to appoint a judge from conservative ranks to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg will mean a conservative majority on the court of 6 to 3.

Reuters writes that a large part of the money raised by Democrats will be directed towards Senate races, as well as to pressure Republicans who are 'in a dilemma' to oppose Trump's appointment of a new conservative judge before the elections.
