US Envoy for Ukraine Resigns

(Patria) – Kurt Volker, the US Special Envoy for Ukraine, has resigned due to the further complication of the situation and the growing pressure for the impeachment of the US President, agencies report.

Volker, who is mentioned in a whistleblower's report as having helped Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fulfill alleged Trump requests for information on the son of Democratic rival Biden, is expected to appear before the US Congress next week.

Congress has also called on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to hand over documents related to contacts that the President and his lawyer had with the Ukrainian government, as it is known that Volker helped organize a meeting between Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani and a close advisor to the Ukrainian President. It is stated that Giuliani was trying to persuade Zelenskyy's government to investigate the son of a potential Democratic presidential candidate in the next election, Joe Biden.

His son Hunter Biden was a member of the board of a Ukrainian energy company, but the investigation found no irregularities.

In a letter sent by Congress to Pompeo, among other things, it is stated that part of the investigation relates to 'the extent to which President Trump has jeopardized national security by pressuring Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 elections, as well as withholding security support for Ukraine approved by Congress to defend itself against Russian aggression'.
