American F-18 falls from aircraft carrier into Red Sea

(Patria) - A member of the U.S. Navy sustained minor injuries when an F-18 fighter jet and a tow tractor fell into the sea from an aircraft carrier in the Red Sea.

The aircraft carrier "Harry Truman" is being used in attacks against the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen.

Recall, the Americans have intensified airstrikes and missile attacks on the Houthis in Yemen in recent weeks, in response to their attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea.

The Houthis claim they are carrying out their attacks in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, but the U.S. and its allies believe this directly threatens global supply chains and freedom of navigation along key maritime routes.

American strikes escalated after the Houthis hit several merchant ships and launched missiles toward U.S. destroyers, which mostly intercepted them.

The Trump administration has stepped up the pace of operations, claiming the goal is not only deterrence but also the permanent destruction of Houthi military capabilities.
