(Patria) - US President Donald Trump held a meeting today in the White House Situation Room to discuss the new crisis around the Strait of Hormuz and negotiations with Iran, two US officials confirmed.
The situation with Iran is at a critical stage, given that the ceasefire is expected to expire in three days, and a date for a new meeting between US and Iranian negotiators has not yet been set.
Iran's announcement of the re-closure of the strait, as well as a series of attacks on ships in that waterway, followed less than 24 hours after Trump said that an agreement to end the war could be reached "within a day or two".
A senior US official warned that if there is no progress soon, the war could continue in the coming days.
The meeting in the Situation Room was attended by Vice President JD Vance, who is expected to participate in the next round of negotiations with Iran, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, a US official stated.
