US Army Resumes Arms Deliveries to Ukraine

(Patria) - The United States is delivering artillery shells and mobile rocket projectiles to Ukraine, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Wednesday, days after the administration of President Donald Trump halted deliveries of some important weapons to Kyiv.

The pause in deliveries of some weapons last week appeared to be linked to concerns that U.S. military stockpiles might be too low, officials said. Since then, Trump has said he does not know who ordered the pause and that he will send more weapons to Ukraine, primarily defensive, to help the war-torn country defend itself against intensifying Russian advances.
Officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Ukraine is now being supplied with 155mm artillery shells and GMLRS (mobile rocket projectiles).

Officials did not say how much weaponry is being sent and whether the shipment is complete. It is also unclear why the latest shipments only included shells and artillery projectiles and whether any decision has been made to continue deliveries of other weapons.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Tuesday that he had ordered an expansion of contacts with the United States to secure deliveries, primarily of air defense.

Trump said he would consider sending Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine, but it is unclear when.

The shipment that was paused last week included 30 Patriot missiles, 8,500 155mm artillery shells, more than 250 GMLRS precision rockets, and 142 Hellfire air-to-ground missiles.

Kyiv has stated that it desperately needs more air defense systems to help counter the swarms of drones and missiles Russia has been sending since its invasion in 2022.
