(Patria) - The US military carried out new strikes in Yemen early on Wednesday, destroying two Houthi anti-ship missiles that were aimed at the Red Sea and were preparing for launch, according to a US military statement, Reuters reported.
The US strikes, which occurred around 2:30 AM (23:30 GMT), followed a larger round of strikes the day before.
"US forces identified the missiles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen and determined that they posed an immediate threat to merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the region," the US military's Central Command said in a statement.
"US forces subsequently struck and destroyed the missiles in self-defense," they added.
Since the United States began strikes on Houthi military sites in Yemen on January 11, the Pentagon says it has destroyed or damaged over 25 missile launch and deployment sites and more than 20 missiles. They also say they have hit Houthi drones, coastal radars and air surveillance capabilities, as well as weapons depots.
