US and British intelligence agencies working together to establish peace in Gaza

(Patria) - The heads of the US CIA and British MI6 jointly announced that these intelligence agencies are continuously working towards a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and seeking a solution for peace.

William Burns, director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and Richard Moore, chief of the United Kingdom's Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), stated that these organizations are using their intelligence channels to strongly encourage war containment and de-escalation.

The statements were given to the London Financial Times in the form of a joint interview, which is atypical for the intelligence community.

"A ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas could end the suffering and horrific loss of life of Palestinian civilians and bring home Hamas’s hostages after 11 months of hellish captivity," Burns and Moore stated, as reported by Associated Press.

The American agency reminds that Burns has been largely involved in efforts to end the fighting between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas.

The US and the UK are staunch allies of Israel, although London suspended some arms exports to Israel last week.

Burns and Moore jointly emphasized the importance of strong transatlantic relations at a time of, as they said, a series of threats including Russia, China, and the constant dangers of international terrorism.

The two top intelligence officials from the US and the UK recalled that the CIA and MI6 declassified data about Russia's plan to attack Ukraine.

"We saw it coming and were able to warn the international community," they said, and assessed that the modern military equipment supplied to Ukraine gave Kyiv the opportunity to change the course of the war, reports RSE.
