(Patria) - The administration of US President Joseph Biden has approved an emergency sale of nearly 14,000 tank ammunition rounds to Israel, valued at $105 million, as military operations intensify in the southern Gaza Strip, the State Department announced.
As stated, the State Department notified Congress of the sale on Friday, after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken determined "that an emergency exists which necessitates the immediate sale" of the ammunition, in the US national security interest.
This means the sale will bypass the congressional review typically required for military equipment if it is supplied abroad, reports RSE.
"The United States is committed to Israel's security, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel in developing and maintaining a strong capability to defend itself.
Israel will use this enhanced capability to deter regional threats and strengthen its homeland defense," the statement read.
