NATO Ambassadors: Russia Must Cooperate in Navalny Investigation

(Patria) - NATO allies agreed on Friday that Russia must fully cooperate in an impartial investigation led by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons into the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the head of the alliance announced.

Germany, where Navalny is being treated in hospital, claims he was poisoned with a Soviet-style Novichok nerve agent.

Russia has not yet launched a criminal investigation and claims it has no evidence of a potential crime.

"Any use of chemical weapons shows complete disregard for human lives and is an unacceptable violation of international norms and rules," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a press conference.

He added that NATO allies agree that there are now serious questions facing Russia that it must answer.
