Head of the Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to NATO, Ambassador Almir Džuvo, presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, on 25 April 2016. The credential presentation ceremony was held in the private office of the NATO Secretary General, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
In a conversation after the ceremony, Ambassador Džuvo conveyed greetings and an invitation from the members of the Presidency of BiH for Secretary General Stoltenberg to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina in the near future. Ambassador Džuvo informed the Secretary General about progress in activities undertaken by BiH institutions to implement reforms in the country in order to accelerate BiH's path towards Euro-Atlantic integration, which has been recognized by the international community and resulted in the submission of the EU membership application.
The Ambassador particularly highlighted significant progress on the path to NATO, such as the achieved very high level of interoperability of the BiH Armed Forces with NATO, and the process of registering prospective military property as the main condition for activating the Membership Action Plan (MAP). Ambassador Džuvo said that the activation of the MAP represents a very important message, not only for BiH, and emphasized the importance of the "open door" policy.
Ambassador Džuvo and Secretary General Stoltenberg exchanged views on the current political and security situation in the region and the world, and the Secretary General stressed that BiH has a friend in him and that he provides full support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in its efforts to join NATO and the EU.
