SARAJEVO, (Patria) - We did not find it possible to join the communique adopted today by our partners in the Steering Board. Moreover, we express our disagreement, stated the Russian Embassy in a press release.
"For the umpteenth time, we note with regret that the communiques of the Steering Board have become a political instrument that unilaterally portrays reality, through which attempts are made to influence and, moreover, to interfere in the internal affairs of BiH in order to promote an agenda that not only has nothing to do with the implementation of the Peace Agreement, but is contrary to it. The Russian Federation, as one of the guarantors of the Peace Agreement, cannot agree with such an approach, which clearly does not contribute to the process of inter-ethnic reconciliation, negatively affects the political situation in BiH, and continues to undermine the unity of the international community," the Embassy's message reads.
"For our part, we emphasize our comprehensive support for the Dayton principles of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH, the equality of its three constituent peoples and two entities with broad constitutional powers. We fully support dialogue based on mutual respect between the peoples of BiH on all issues important to them, we consider it key to resolve all problems facing BiH through compromise and consensus, we call for attention to be paid to the unifying agenda and to work towards establishing true national reconciliation, we reject external interference in the internal affairs of BiH," they stated in the release.
As they say, "we are following the developments in the judiciary with concern, especially in the context of recent events in the Federation of BiH."
"We consider unacceptable attempts to exert political pressure on court and prosecution bodies, which must be provided with the opportunity for independent, impartial and professional activity in accordance with the law. Cases of threats to judicial and prosecutorial staff must be taken seriously and promptly prosecuted. The activity of the Central Election Commission, which plays a key role in the process of preparing and holding elections, must also be independent and professional. The CEC cannot afford to get involved in political disputes and to question its reputation as an impartial and equidistant institution of power. The upcoming local elections in BiH should be fair and democratic and should be held in such a way and within the timeframe as provided for by law," the message from the Russian Embassy states, after the publication of the communique of the Peace Implementation Council Steering Board, which the Russian representative did not support.
They emphasize that in the year marking the 25th anniversary of the signing of the General Framework Peace Agreement, they consider it necessary to pay special attention to the role of the international community in a sovereign BiH, which is excessive and sometimes crosses the line of non-interference in internal affairs."
"We consider it important to formulate a new formula for the abolition of the Office of the High Representative, which has lost its useful role and often becomes part of the problem," the Russian Embassy's statement said.
