(Patria) - Head of the Communications Directorate of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, Fahrettin Altun, emphasized in his speech at an extraordinary session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers of the OIC that the ongoing Israeli repression in Gaza since October 7 is a result of a colonial and imperialist mentality towards the Middle East.
An extraordinary session of the information ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held yesterday in Istanbul, on the topic "Disinformation activities of the occupying Israeli administration in the occupied Palestinian territories and attacks on journalists and media organizations", hosted by the Communications Directorate.
Altun noted that Jerusalem, the seat of the organization, is under occupation today and said that since October 7, Israel has repeatedly committed the greatest massacres and genocide in Gaza and the Palestinian territories that the world has ever seen.
He pointed out that when it comes to the history of Israeli oppression, it is an illusion to consider October 7 as a turning point or a new event, adding that the events after October 7 are the result of Israeli repression in Gaza.
"The Western world order has made Israel, which commits massacres, untouchable"
Emphasizing that when identifying Israel's crimes, it is necessary to consider the dark forces gathered behind it, Altun said that the main reason why Israel acts so recklessly is the injustice of the international system and the dysfunctional structure of many international organizations, especially the United Nations.
“This is the main reason why Israel has not yet received the punishment it deserves. Israel commits crimes and commits massacres, but it is practically untouchable by the Western world order. We cannot accept this,” said Altun.
He emphasized that the structure of the UN Security Council cannot prevent massacres, nor can it decide on a ceasefire, and added:
"The fact that Israel, despite all its crimes, does not face sanctions is the result of the irresponsible and malicious use of the veto privilege in the UN Security Council. This situation is in itself an indicator of the despair in which the international system finds itself. A revision of this system is essential."
He stated that for this reason, Turkey consistently emphasizes the need to build an international system that can play a leading role in resolving global crises and conflicts.
“The slogans of our president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who says 'The world is greater than five' and 'A fairer world is possible', are the most concise expression of the need for revision in the international system. In line with this motto, the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and geographically integrated Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, forms the basis of our position towards Palestine,” said Altun.
Head of the Communications Directorate Altun emphasized that it is not possible to stop Israeli massacres and establish lasting peace in the region without establishing an independent Palestinian state.
Altun stated that many journalists who advocated for the truth against Israel's stance were subjected to mobbing and pressure from the relevant media organizations, and that many of them were fired.
“All this aside, we are faced with another, much more painful and shameful picture for humanity. Israel is systematically killing journalists in Gaza. In this process, 130 journalists have been killed, their families are targeted, more than a thousand children from their families have been killed, and their homes have been bombed,” Altun recounted.
