Almir Hasanbašić admits to murdering grandmother in Modriča, inflicted 24 stab wounds

(Patria) - Almir Hasanbašić (18) from Modriča admitted during the criminal investigation that he stabbed his grandmother Mensura Hasanbašić to death, and the motive for the murder was greed.

This was stated by the head of the Doboj Police Department, Slobodan Radinković, citing the initials of the suspect.

"The murder was reported on October 22 at 8:58 PM, and it was reported by the suspect A.H. and two of his friends. They were questioned by the police about the circumstances of finding the body, and at that time, based on their statements, it was not possible to ascertain the perpetrators. However, certain inconsistencies were noticed in the contact between the three of them, the timing, and how everything unfolded. Simply put, the statements did not match," said Radinković.

He says that all three were detained an hour after midnight, and indications emerged that the victim's grandson could be linked to the murder. During the investigation, it was determined that the elderly woman had 24 stab wounds on her body, mostly in the chest area, as well as on her arms and legs. However, the exact number of stab wounds will be known after the autopsy.

"Searches were conducted at three locations, and one vehicle was searched. In A.H.'s house, clothing items were found, namely a jacket and sneakers, which had been washed in the washing machine before the report. The suspect was present during the search, and when he saw how thoroughly everything was done, he confessed to committing the crime," said Radinković.

He says that the suspect also admitted that he drank 10 "diazepam" (for calming) while giving his statement about finding the body, and that he behaved coldly and without emotion during the criminal investigation, only admitting to the act later.

"Furthermore, police officers found a backpack between the perpetrator's house and the suspect's house, which contained a t-shirt with traces of blood, a knife, and gloves," stated Radinković.

He explained that upon arriving at the scene, the police noticed that the door to the elderly woman's house had been broken open, most likely by force with a foot.

"Fragments of sneakers were found on the door. It was also determined that the house had been ransacked. The motive for the murder was greed," emphasized Radinković.

He pointed out that the other two individuals who were detained have no connection to the crime and cannot be linked to the commission of the criminal act, and they have been released.

"They came at the suspect's invitation and went to his grandmother's house with him when they found the body," said the head of the Doboj Police Department.

Almir Hasanbašić was handed over to the jurisdiction of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Doboj last night for further proceedings.
