
(Patria) - Aleksandar Saša Kasanof has taken over the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Balkans, the US State Department announced, reports RSE.
This position was previously held by Gabriel Escobar, whose term expired in May of this year.
Kasanof previously served as executive assistant to former Under Secretary for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland and Acting Under Secretary for Political Affairs John Bass.
He served in Ireland, Turkmenistan, Chile, and Ukraine.
It is stated that he received the "James Clement Dunn" award for excellence for his work as political advisor at the US Embassy in Kyiv during the Maidan Revolution.
It is stated that Kasanof's duties in Washington include serving as Director of the Office of Global Policy and Programs in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, serving as Deputy Director of the Executive Secretariat Staff, Director of the Office of East European Affairs, and Deputy Director of the Office of Caucasus Affairs and Regional Conflicts.
Kasanof graduated from the National War College, the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, and Hamilton College.
In addition to English, he speaks French, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.
