Al-Sharaa: Trump's plan is a serious crime that will ultimately fail

(Patria) - New Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa believes that US President Donald Trump's plan to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and for the US to take over that territory is "a serious crime that will ultimately fail".

Trump said the US would take over the Gaza Strip and develop it economically after Palestinians move elsewhere. According to him, Palestinians would not have the right to return.

In an interview with the British podcast The Rest Is Politics, Al-Sharaa argued that Trump's proposal will not succeed.

- I believe that no force can drive a people from their land. Many countries have tried to do this and none have succeeded, especially during the war in Gaza over the past year and a half - Al-Sharaa stressed.

Al-Sharaa, who was declared president in a transitional phase after his militant group overthrew Bashar al-Assad from power, assesses that it would not be "wise, nor moral, nor politically correct" for Trump to lead a plan to drive Palestinians from their land.

- In 80 years of this conflict, all attempts to displace them have failed; those who left regretted it. The Palestinian lesson learned by all generations is that it is important to preserve one's own land - Al-Sharaa added.

Egypt, Jordan and other Arab nations have strongly opposed any attempts to expel Palestinians across the border. They fear it would undermine prospects for a "two-state solution" and that Arab nations would have to deal with the consequences.
