If the EU closes its borders: Can Bosnia and Herzegovina cope with 100,000 Syrian refugees

If EU countries close their borders to Syrian refugees, as many as 100,000 of them could head to Bosnia and Herzegovina, said today in Sarajevo the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Security, Sifet Podžić, reports the Patria news agency.

Podžić presented estimates from security and intelligence services in Bosnia and Herzegovina. If this happens, Bosnia and Herzegovina will struggle to cope with such a major challenge, it was concluded after today's meeting of the Committee and officials of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs at the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Podžić stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina is preparing so that “we do not face a bottleneck like Croatia did”. The biggest problem, he highlighted, is the accommodation of refugees, but he said work is also being done on that.
