Operation by SPS and Sarajevo Canton MUP Police Administration: 154 migrants found in a private facility in Stup

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - On 02/28/2020, inspectors of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs, together with police officers of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, in accordance with the previously prepared Operational Plan, carried out a control of individuals providing accommodation services in the Stupsko brdo area. During the operation, 154 migrants were found in a private facility that does not have a license for providing accommodation services, it was announced from the Service for Foreigners' Affairs.

The found persons were taken to reception centers for processing and determination of their residency status, given that they did not have identification documents on them. A special focus of the control was on finding individuals who could be linked to criminal offenses committed in the Sarajevo Canton area.

During the control, it was determined that a certain number of individuals had visible physical injuries, the origin of which will be determined by medical teams in the reception centers in the coming period, and medical examinations for infectious and transmissible diseases will be carried out.

The joint implementation of measures and actions by the Service for Foreigners' Affairs together with police officers of the Sarajevo Canton MUP Police Administration aims to prevent and sanction all forms of illegal migrant behavior, and to find individuals in improvised accommodation facilities not intended for such purposes, especially in the urban area of Sarajevo.

In accordance with the Law on Foreigners, a report on the inspection was prepared during the control, and the owner of the facility was issued a misdemeanor order, and the competent tax and inspection authorities were informed to take measures within their jurisdiction.

The Service for Foreigners' Affairs calls on citizens to report the existence of illegal accommodation facilities for migrants, as their existence can affect the disruption of the security situation and create risks of infectious diseases.
