Aid operation by Mostar residents for a former fighter: Šemsudin cried, and we fled because the heart is not made of stone

The citizens' association "Together for Our City" Mostar, led by Nermin Mehić, organized and successfully carried out an aid collection operation for the family of former fighter of the Fifth Corps of the Army of RBiH, Šemsudin Ćehić, and his five children. Šemsudin's wife, Šejla, suddenly passed away at the age of 38 on April 25th, while he was at protests in Sarajevo with his comrades, writes the Patria news agency.

- We arrived at Šemsudin's house. Although the weather was bright and people usually feel joyful, there was a sense of sadness and heaviness in the air. We were welcomed with great kindness. The president of JOB, Senad, provided us with accommodation at a hotel. I don't even need to talk about the welcome at Šemsudin's house. His sisters, brother... We sat down after a long journey from Mostar to Bihać, and the conversation began slowly. I cannot describe the feeling, but in the room where we sat, I felt pain, great sadness. I saw it on the faces of Puce, Eto..., Nermin Mehić tells the Patria news agency.

- From the conversation, we learned that Šemsudin and his late wife, along with their children, were a family that never gave up.

They lived a difficult life, fighting together to feed their little ones, never asking anyone for charity. They cut and sold firewood, earning 30-40 KM. They managed as best they could, but always with pride and honesty. Then the tragedy happened; Šemso lost his support in life. The children are young and do not understand what really happened. Only the eldest son is aware of the situation and is ready to help his father.

The donated money we gave to the Ćehić family will be of great help. The children were delighted with the sweaters, dolls, toys, and food... the operation was a complete success.

At the end of our visit, Šemsudin couldn't hold back. He stood by the van and started crying. We waved and left quickly, because it's overwhelming when you see that, you can't help but shed a tear, the heart is not made of stone... I thank everyone who participated in this operation, because the joy we brought into the Ćehić house, the children's smiles... their radiant faces... it cannot be described..., says Mehić.
