
(Patria) - The acting prosecutor from the Department for Human Smuggling and Trafficking of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH is conducting activities with police officers of the BiH Border Police in the field within an operational action to combat international organized illegal migrations.
The target of the operation codenamed "Pyramid" is several individuals suspected of being members of an international organized criminal group who, for an extended period, smuggled or attempted to smuggle over 600 people, including more than 100 minors, all for the purpose of gaining significant personal financial benefit.
Activities are being carried out in the areas of Una-Sana Canton, Zenica-Doboj Canton, and Sarajevo Canton. The suspects are under investigation for the criminal offense of Organizing a Group or Association for the Commission of the Criminal Offense of Migrant Smuggling from Article 189.a of the Criminal Code of BiH, in conjunction with the criminal offense of Human Smuggling from Article 189. of the same Law.
Significant cooperation was achieved in the investigation and work on the case with the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia and EUROPOL, and continuous support to the BiH Border Police is provided by the Intelligence-Security Agency of BiH and the Service for Foreigners' Affairs of BiH.
The acting prosecutor will make a decision on further activities in the case that will ensure the unimpeded continuation of the investigation conducted by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH with partner police agencies.
