Action "Let's Clean Europe!" on May 10 in BiH too

Across Europe on May 10, the clean-up action "Let's Clean Europe!" will be held, involving as many people as possible in this project. Activities will be carried out in 15 European Union countries, as well as in Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey.

Every year, millions of tons of waste end up on European streets, seas, rivers, beaches, forests, and other natural areas. The project "Let's Clean Europe!" aims to raise awareness about the problem of waste and encourage behavioral changes.

EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik said that civic clean-up movements tend to spread in Europe.

- We have assembled a network of national contact points in 21 countries so that people know what is happening in their neighborhood and what they can do to help solve the problem. We all want to live in a clean environment. Therefore, let's put on our boots and gloves and clean up Europe together – said Potočnik.

Otherwise, this action is the final phase of the campaign within the European Week for Waste Reduction, which was launched in 2009 and was initially focused on raising awareness about waste prevention. During the past four editions of the Waste Reduction Week, more than 25,000 communication activities were carried out in 28 countries, and a network of public and private entities operating in the field of waste prevention has been developed.

Full implementation of EU waste legislation could save €72 billion annually, increase annual turnover in the waste management and recycling sector by €42 billion, and create over 400,000 new jobs by 2020.
