(Patria) - The acting prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, after questioning the suspects, will submit a proposal to the Court of BiH for the detention of the suspected organizer of the group, Safi Amir (1996), a citizen of Afghanistan. The detention measure will be proposed for reasons described in Article 132, points a) and b) of the Law on Criminal Procedure of BiH, namely due to the risk of the suspect absconding, which would make him unavailable to our country's judiciary upon leaving BiH, as well as the risk that he might obstruct the investigation, conceal evidence, or influence witnesses or accomplices while at liberty.
The suspect is under investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and is suspected of the criminal offenses of organizing a group of people or association for the commission of the criminal offense of 'smuggling of migrants' from Article 189a, in connection with the criminal offense of human trafficking from Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The aforementioned suspect was deprived of liberty within yesterday's operation codenamed "Fast", aimed at detecting and prosecuting the organizers of illegal smuggling of dozens of migrants from the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the Republic of Croatia and further towards other EU countries. The Prosecutor's Office of BiH continues intensive work on the case.
