Academician Duraković in Travnik: Palestine is the collective conscience of humanity

(Patria) - As part of the "Dani Ajvatovice" event, a forum titled "Palestine on the Conscience of Humanity" was held tonight in the Travnik Municipality hall, featuring academician Esad Duraković.

The forum was named after the book of the same title by academician Duraković, who stated that the entire modern world has failed on the example of Palestine, in a humanistic, humanitarian, and ethical sense.

– Whenever I talk about it, I feel a kind of anguish because I feel helpless to help these people who are suffering in the largest camp in the world, all with the support of almost all Western governments – stated academician Duraković.

As a professor who deals with the Arabic language and literature, he tries to articulate these crimes and, as much as possible, to warn the world and the public about them.

– If nothing else, let's talk about it, let's shed a tear, let's appeal to our surroundings. Let's finally be human, not silent observers of the greatest tragedy of our time – said academician Duraković.

In the spirit of this topic, it is important to reflect on the position of a conscious and humane individual who is powerless to do something concrete.

– I have attended demonstrations and protests and I write about this topic on portals. People can and should talk about it in mosques, it should be part of our sermons. Especially intellectuals, who are generally passive in Bosnia and Herzegovina, should talk and write about it – warned academician Duraković.

It is an obligation, explains academician Duraković, for each of us to ask ourselves daily what we have done and what more we can do for Palestine.

– If you allow me, I would perhaps say it figuratively. I believe that each of us, at the approaches to the Sirat bridge, will be asked: "And what did you do for Palestine?" Therefore, we have a responsibility to do something more within our capabilities – noted academician Duraković.

The forum was moderated by the chief imam of the Islamic Community Council of Travnik, Edin-ef. Memić, and was attended by numerous citizens, including representatives of the social, religious, cultural, and educational life of the region.
