Ayatollah Khamenei rejected Trump's offer for talks, denied US destroyed Iranian nuclear capabilities

(Patria) - Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Monday rejected US President Donald Trump's offer to resume talks and denied his claim that the United States destroyed Iran's nuclear capabilities, Reuters reported.

Tehran and Washington participated in five rounds of indirect nuclear negotiations which ended with a twelve-day air war in June in which Israel and the United States bombed Iranian nuclear sites.

"Trump says he is the one who makes deals, but if a deal is accompanied by coercion and its outcome is predetermined, it is not a deal, but an imposition and harassment," Khamenei told state media.

Last week, Trump told the Israeli parliament that it would be great if Washington could negotiate a "peace agreement" with Tehran, following the start of a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

"The US President proudly says that they bombed and destroyed the Iranian nuclear industry. Okay, just dream on," Khamenei added.

"What business is it of America's whether Iran has nuclear facilities or not? These interventions are inappropriate, wrong, and coercive."

Western powers accuse Iran of secretly trying to develop a nuclear bomb by enriching uranium and want it to stop such activities. Tehran denies trying to weaponize enrichment, claiming the program is solely for civilian energy purposes.
