Faruk Balijagić, a lawyer who fled to Croatia on April 4, was questioned today by an investigative judge in Rijeka. The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office Sarajevo has charged Faruk Balijagić and his son Ada with incitement to commit criminal acts, including murder, reports the news agency Patria.
Faruk Balijagić's lawyer, Mirnes Ajanović, confirmed that his client appeared before an investigative judge in Rijeka this morning due to a request submitted to the State Attorney's Office of Croatia and the Ministry of Justice of that country to have him tried in Croatia for the case pending against him and his son Ada Balijagić at the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton.
"The judge questioned him and after the questioning, a decision was made to reject the request for extradition to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The second decision is that he will be tried for this case in Croatia," Ajanović told N1. His lawyer in Croatia will be Predrag Kovačić.
Ajanović added that Balijagić has not been taken into custody or arrested. It is a process that his client, as a citizen of both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, initiated himself.
