Ahić: Terrorists no longer have clear targets and goals, it is difficult to prevent possible attacks

Jasmin Ahić, a professor at the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies, said that terrorist attacks are becoming more intense considering the recent events in Istanbul, Ankara, Berlin, Patria reports.

- For all citizens of Europe and this part of the world, the principle of unpredictability applies and it is fully reflected in these terrorist activities, and it is difficult to fight against them and difficult to prevent or forestall them – Ahić said for TV1.

When asked whether it is possible to stop these attacks, Ahić states that the specificity of these events is that the standard goals and targets of the attacks are no longer clear.

- In Berlin, a civilian gathering became a very receptive target in which attacks are again carried out as was the case in Nice. Human casualties are the most painful. In the security system itself within the EU, you cannot determine priority targets and forestall or predict what is next, which method, whether it is a suicide method, detonating an explosive device, whether it will be an assassination as in Ankara – says Ahić.

He believes that such a situation leads to a position of fear and panic for both security forces and the public, which is the primary goal of these terrorist activities. When asked whether Europe can fight and overcome terrorism, Ahić believes that it must fight but it will be very difficult.

- What gives additional emphasis to security forces is that segment that there are no direct targets of states or systems connected to Middle Eastern conflicts. You have an attack on Germany which has no connection to the conflict in Syria – says Ahić, adding that this awakens right-wing forces.
