Agrokomerc wants to launch chestnut puree production

State-owned company Agrokomerc from Velika Kladuša is looking for a partner to launch chestnut puree production, reports BH News Agency Patria. Fadil Bihorac, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at this company, said that until the beginning of the '90s, Agrokomerc was known in Europe, among other things, for its chestnut puree. It was mostly exported to Italy. This production was halted during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Chestnut puree is a valued product in the West, especially in Italy, from which various delicacies are made. Beekeepers from Krajina have already branded chestnut honey, which is increasingly valued in Europe, writes Patria.

- Krajina is rich in chestnut forests. Many families still pick chestnuts today and sell them in Croatia and Italy. They send them in raw form. However, if they processed these chestnuts and exported them as a finished product, their price would be much higher, and people would earn far more from chestnuts than they do now – Bihorac told Patria.

- Launching chestnut puree production at Agrokomerc, which also has ready lines for this processing, would mean hundreds of direct and indirect new jobs for many people from Krajina, and thus more money in the state treasury – added Bihorac, writes Patria.
