Scandal Shaking the US: New Documents Released on Epstein

(Patria) - Nineteen unsealed documents from a lawsuit connected to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted pedophile who died in prison before he could face charges of sex trafficking, were released this morning. This is the second batch of releases, with the documents released this morning totaling over 300 pages.

The documents are part of a 2015 civil defamation lawsuit filed by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, an American who claimed Epstein sexually abused her as a minor and that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's close associate, aided in the abuse.

This morning's document release followed more than 900 pages of documents released yesterday, with additional documents expected in the coming weeks.

The documents are expected to include nearly 200 names in total, including those who accused Epstein, prominent businessmen, politicians, and other powerful figures. However, being named in the documents does not necessarily mean someone is accused or has committed wrongdoing.

The documents range from technical legal arguments and evidence to statements detailing allegations and descriptions of alleged crimes, many or all of which appear to have already been known to the public through other publications, media interviews, and the like.

Detective Described How Epstein and Maxwell Found and Recruited Girls

One document, a statement from Palm Beach detective Joseph Recarey, outlines the process by which Epstein and Maxwell found and recruited girls "to perform massages and work at Epstein's home." Recarey was the lead detective on a previous case against Epstein in the mid-2000s.

In the document, when asked by a lawyer how many girls Recarey had spoken to about being recruited by Maxwell, Recarey replied, "I would say about 30. 30, 33."

The lawyer then asked Recarey, "And at the end of that massage, if that victim brought other friends, she would be paid for recruiting those friends?" "Correct," Recarey answered.

At another point, the lawyer asked the detective, "So, did you determine that 'massage' was actually code for something else?" Recarey's response was, "When they went for a massage, it was for sexual gratification."

Another plaintiff, whose name was redacted, said in a 2016 deposition that when she was between 15 and 17 years old, she was paid to massage Jeffrey Epstein even though she had no experience with massage. The massage, she thought, "did not involve any sexual activity. That's what I assumed."

However, she said that assumption was wrong. "I was there and something horrible happened to me," she said of her experience with Epstein, adding that "it wasn't supposed to be sexual, but it was."

She said she brought other high school girls to Epstein's home at his request and was paid when she was at his house even if she did nothing.

There are names in the released documents that remained hidden. For example, in an email sent in 2011 by Sharon Churcher, a journalist for the British newspaper Mail on Sunday, to a recipient with a redacted name, she mentions someone who was sold to "men, including two of the world's most respected politicians," followed by a bracketed section with two names blacked out with thick black bars.

However, there are also well-known names in the documents.

"Clinton Threatened Magazine Not to Write About Epstein"

In one released email from 2011, Giuffre stated that former President Bill Clinton threatened a magazine not to write articles about Epstein and sex trafficking.

In an email to journalist Sharon Churcher, Giuffre said she was concerned about giving information to the Mail, "given that B. Clinton went into VF (Vanity Fair, editor's note) and threatened them not to write articles about trafficking and about his good friend J.E. (Jeffrey Epstein)."

Editor: It Did Not Happen

Giuffre did not specify when Clinton's alleged interaction with Vanity Fair occurred. Graydon Carter, who was the editor of Vanity Fair from 1992 to 2017, told CNN that the interaction "categorically did not happen."

A spokesperson for Clinton told CNN they had no new comments on the alleged incident. Yesterday, in response to Clinton appearing multiple times in the documents, his spokesperson said, "It has been almost 20 years since President Clinton last had contact with Epstein."

The first batch of documents, released yesterday, mostly contained names and information that had already been published in various media outlets and disclosed in other court proceedings. However, this is the first time these specific documents have been publicly released. More documents are expected in the coming days.

Giuffre and Maxwell settled in 2017 in a civil lawsuit, but court filings were previously redacted to protect individuals' privacy. Some names and information are still blacked out in the unsealed documents.

Most of the lawsuit's documents were unsealed in 2019, the day before Epstein died by suicide in prison. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison after being convicted of sex trafficking in 2021.

In a statement to CNN, her lawyers said she has "consistently and vehemently maintained her innocence."
