(Patria) - Deputy chairman of the German far-right populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) Tino Chrupalla has questioned Germany's NATO membership and declared Russia the winner of the war in Ukraine.
- So far, Europe has been forced to implement the interests of the USA. We sharply reject that - Chrupalla said in an interview with the Sunday edition of the daily Die Welt.
He stated that a defence alliance must accept and respect the interests of all European countries, "including the interests of Russia".
- If NATO is not able to achieve that, then Germany must consider how much benefit it still has from this alliance - Chrupalla emphasised, adding that, given the situation on the battlefield, it is wrong to help Ukraine.
- Russia has won this war. Reality has caught up with those who claim they can help Ukraine win the war. The German government must finally reach the point where it wants to stop this war - said the deputy chairman of the AfD.
Chrupalla announced that at the party convention in January, the AfD will discuss Germany's security strategy, which will remain in focus until an "independent and effective European military alliance" is formed.
The AfD is accused of being close to Moscow's official positions, and this party is one of the most ardent critics of German aid to Ukraine.
A large part of voters in eastern Germany, where the AfD has the most support, views aid to Ukraine and confrontation with Russia extremely critically.
