Sarajevo Airport: Plane that had a 'collision' with a flock of birds undergoes detailed checks

(Patria) - An unusual situation occurred today over Sarajevo International Airport. Shortly before landing, a plane collided with a flock of pigeons. Feathers covered the sky above the runway, and the unfortunate pigeons ended up on the ground. Sarajevo International Airport confirmed this information.

"During the landing of a Wizz Air aircraft from Budapest, a collision with a flock of birds occurred, but despite this, the aircraft landed without problems.

Today at 16:10, another aircraft of this company is arriving, which should transport passengers to Budapest, and with which technical personnel will arrive to inspect this morning's aircraft. Due to all of this, the plane to Budapest, instead of departing at 11:15 as scheduled, should depart at 16:40," said Sanja Bagarić-Arnaut, expert associate for public relations, for Patria.

A man who identified himself as the owner of the pigeons, recognizing them by the rings on their legs, asked airport officials in Sarajevo to allow him to collect the dead birds, but they told him it was impossible and that his entry onto the airport in such a manner would be considered illegal border crossing.
Witnesses who heard the collision say the impact was very strong and they thought the plane was crashing.
