Lawyer confirms Puigdemont is in Brussels

Belgian lawyer Paul Bekaert confirmed on Monday that the dismissed Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont is in Belgium and that his client, according to world media, reports agency Patria.

Bekaert did not want to confirm whether he is working with Puigdemont on seeking asylum.

- I can confirm that Carles Puigdemont has appointed me as his legal representative, and that he is currently in Belgium - said Beckaert.

- I am his lawyer in case he needs me. At this moment, there are no specific documents I am preparing for him - emphasized the lawyer who operates in the municipality of Tielt in western Belgium.

Puigdemont's party announced on Monday that they will participate in the snap elections in Catalonia, which were called by the Spanish government and Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy for two months from now.

On Saturday, the Spanish government took control of the Catalan administration by dismissing the Catalan government and calling elections for December 21st, activating Article 155 of the constitution.
