GERMANY, (Patria) - Former world boxing champion Adnan Ćatić, known as Felix Sturm, has been preliminarily sentenced to three years in prison. The verdict was delivered by the District Court in Cologne, which found Ćatić guilty of tax evasion.
According to German media Kölner Rundschau, Ćatić will be in an open prison to be able to prepare for boxing matches.
He was arrested a year ago at a fitness fair on charges of evading around three million euros in taxes from 2008 to 2013. According to Bild, he was found guilty for the period from 2008 to 2010 and evaded one million euros in taxes in 2013. He was acquitted for other years, and the evaded amount was reduced.
He was also convicted of violating anti-doping laws. The verdict states that he used prohibited substances in February 2016 when he fought against Russian Fedor Chudinov. Since the fight was considered illegal due to this, he is also charged with causing bodily harm.
Ćatić spent eight months in custody and was released after paying a bail of 300,000 euros.
