75 years of Elektroprivreda BiH: Being a driver of progress and economic strengthening

(Patria) - On September 7, 2020, the Public Enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH d.d. - Sarajevo celebrates 75 years of existence. This is the date the Decree on the Establishment of the Electric Company of Bosnia and Herzegovina "ElektroBiH" entered into force, which was adopted on August 30, 1945, by the People's Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Throughout its long existence, the company Elektroprivreda BiH has undergone organizational transformations and developmental phases, but it has always played a role as a driver of economic development for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Today, JP Elektroprivreda BiH is a socially responsible, modernly organized, market-oriented company whose activities, mission, and significance are of strategic importance for the energy independence, economic stability, development, and economic health of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company supplies electricity to more than 774 thousand customers. It has installed production capacities of 1,682 MW and employs over 4,340 employees of various profiles and expertise levels.

Admir Andelija, General Manager, stated on the occasion of the jubilee that JP Elektroprivreda BiH faces obligations and responsibilities for fulfilling tasks from EU legislation on energy, environment, competition, and renewable sources, emphasizing that: "The process of restructuring the company is nearing completion, which will result in significant organizational changes, as well as the modernization and restructuring of the EPBiH Concern. The company confirms its commitment to improving its position in the open electricity market by continuously strengthening its competitiveness. The jubilee is an opportunity to recall that the strength of JP Elektroprivreda BiH lies in its capacities, but its greatest value is its employees, their knowledge, skills, experience, persistence, and dedication to work.".

JP Elektroprivreda BiH is currently realizing the most valuable investments in the country – it is carrying out preparatory work for the construction of Block 7 450 MW at the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant and is building the first wind farm on the Podveležje plateau, which will enable an annual production of approximately 130 GWh of electricity. At the same time, Elektroprivreda BiH is developing and preparing for the construction of other thermal potentials and production capacities from renewable energy sources, while improving the distribution system and further enhancing customer relations.

Long-term, sustainable development, responsible investments, competitiveness, and economic growth constitute the company's business policy, and the strategic commitment is the construction of replacement thermal capacities and capacities from renewable sources while respecting European policies and domestic legislation. The goal of JP Elektroprivreda BiH is to constantly move forward and be a driver of progress and strengthening of the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
