25th SFF: Exhibition by photographer Brigitte Lacombe

(Patria) - On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Sarajevo Film Festival, renowned photographer Brigitte Lacombe is exhibiting 40 large-format photographs, capturing rare and intimate moments from her long-standing collaboration with influential film authors, offering an insider's view of cinematography.

Lacombe began working on films in 1975 when she was invited to the set of Alan J. Pakula's film "All the President's Men," and soon after to the film set of Steven Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." She is valued for her close
collaboration with directors (Martin Scorsese, Alejandro González Inárritu, Mike Nichols, Anthony Minghella, Quentin Tarantino, Bernardo Bertolucci, Lynne Ramsey, Wes Anderson, Spike Jonze, and many others), and for her portraits of
actors during and outside of their roles on set (Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Isabelle Huppert, Joaquin Phoenix, and others).

For the past 25 years, she has collaborated with Martin Scorsese on all his productions, most recently on the film "The Irishman," which will premiere in the fall of 2019.  The black and white and color photographs are framed in walnut wood frames, specially made for this exhibition by the Bosnian-Herzegovinian company ARTISAN, at the request of the artist who, during her stay in Sarajevo last year as a member of the jury at the 24th Sarajevo Film Festival, was very impressed by the furniture ARTISAN produces and the beauty of the wood from which it is made, and expressed her wish for the frames for her photographs to be made from that very wood.

The exhibition of photographs, taken between 1975 and 2017, presents a part of the artistic work of photographer Brigitte Lacombe and offers a rare personal insight into contemporary cinematography.
