102-year-old Enver Mrzić: Recipe for a long life – no stress and with people you love

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Municipality of Ilidža has provided financial assistance of 70 KM for its 2,441 residents over the age of 80. 

On February 18, 2020, representatives of the Municipality visited the oldest residents of this municipality and presented them with financial aid and gift packages. The Tuhčić family, Uzeir and Fatima, are refugees from Zvornik and are spending their twilight years in Hrasnica. Grandpa Uzeir and Grandma Fatima live alone. Their children, as they said, are in the wider world, but always care for them from afar. They have two children, two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren who visit them whenever they have the opportunity. They spend their days in the warmth of their home, understanding the transience of life and the importance of love in these days. They remember their Zvornik with longing. They are well-received in Hrasnica, but nostalgia sometimes pulls them back to their hometown.

Enver Mrzić is 102 years old and lives in Otes. He is not lonely, he says, because his neighbors care for him. He spent his working life at the Orthopedic Aids Factory "Neretva". He played the saxophone and loved songs, dancing, and hiking. His son and grandson visit him regularly. 

"I regularly walk around Ilidža, and also Baščaršija. I also go to the mountains, and to pensioner gatherings. My recipe for a long life is not to strive to change things we cannot influence, to live without stress, and to be surrounded by people we love," said this vital centenarian.
