July 1st: Promotion of the book 'From Srebrenica to the Light at the End of the Tunnel' and 'Mrtvare' photo exhibition

(Patria) - As part of the commemoration of the 26th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica, two events will be held in Sarajevo. On Thursday, July 1, 2021, starting at 5:00 PM, the Historical Museum in Sarajevo, in cooperation with the Srebrenica Memorial Center, is organizing the promotion of the book "From Srebrenica to the Light at the End of the Tunnel" by Azir Osmanović.

Azir Osmanović is a Master of History and a curator at the Srebrenica Memorial Center. He has been socially active and participated in various activities and processes related to the integration of the returnee population into the social life of the city. He is the co-author of the book "Srebrenica's Interrupted Childhood" and a contributor to the book "Memorials in the Municipality of Srebrenica." The book promotion will be addressed by the Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, Emir Suljagić, the author of the book, Azir Osmanović, as well as Hajrudin Mešić, a professor at Gazi Husrev-beg Madrasa in Sarajevo, and Ahmo Mehmedović.

On the same day, starting at 7:00 PM, the Art Gallery of BiH will host the opening of a photography exhibition titled "Mrtvare" by the acclaimed photographer Armin Durgut. The exhibition of photographs of shoes found on the route of the Death March from Srebrenica to Nezuk is titled "Mrtvare" (meaning 'dead ones' or 'graves') due to the footwear that people in the Srebrenica enclave received as humanitarian aid, which was believed in the West to be used for the deceased to be buried in, thus giving them the ominous name – mrtvare.

The exhibition will be addressed by the Director of the Art Gallery of BiH, Strajo Krsmanović, the President of the Steering Board of the Memorial Center, Ševket Hafizović, the President of the Steering Board for the commemoration of the 26th anniversary of the genocide, Hamdija Fejzić, and the author of the exhibition, Armin Durgut.
