NATO Official for NAP: Montenegro Requested a Counter-Hybrid Support Team Back in 2019

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Montenegro requested the engagement of a NATO counter-hybrid support team, which was deployed for several days in November 2019, an unnamed NATO official confirmed to Patria.

"At the request of the Government of Montenegro, the first NATO counter-hybrid support team was deployed to Montenegro for several days in November 2019 to provide advice on improving the country's defense against a range of hybrid threats. The Montenegrin request was submitted in early 2019, well before the adoption of the Law on Freedom of Religion. There have been no further requests from the Montenegrin authorities," the unnamed Alliance official added.

We asked him about the current situation in Montenegro, possible internal threats and their impact on the region, and the NATO official told Patria: "We welcome Montenegro's continued valuable contribution to our shared security, including its participation in NATO-led missions, operations, and exercises, and especially through its role in supporting the stability of the Western Balkans region.".

When asked about cooperation with a possible new government, this official briefly replied that they do not comment on the internal affairs of allies.

For clarification, hybrid warfare is a military strategy that includes elements of conventional warfare, unconventional warfare, and cyber warfare.
