(Patria) - Activists of the non-governmental organization "Women in Black" called today for an immediate end to the war in the Middle East with a performance in the center of Belgrade.
With the protest, as they stated, they want to express solidarity with civilians in Israel and Palestine.
- We express our deepest solidarity with civilians in both Israel and Palestine, and solidarity with our sisters for peace, Israeli and Palestinian comrades with whom we have been cooperating for over three decades - stated Staša Zajović, an activist of "Women in Black", for RSE.
She states that they have been in contact with peace activists in Israel and Palestine since the beginning of the war, and adds that the International Criminal Court should also investigate possible war crimes committed by both sides in the conflict.
In the attack by the militant group Hamas on Israel on October 7, 1,300 civilians were killed. The EU and the US have designated Hamas as a terrorist organization.
In the retaliatory attack by the Israeli Air Force in Gaza, more than 2,700 people were killed. A complete blockade is in effect in Gaza, fuel, food, and water are running out, and negotiations are underway for the delivery of aid.
The United Nations has repeatedly called for ensuring safe passage for humanitarian aid, as well as for people fleeing Gaza after Israel's ultimatum for evacuation.
In today's statement, the United Nations warned of possible war crimes.
