Belgrade's attempts to change the truth about the character of the 1990s war stopped

Ambassadors of the European Union member states have accepted reports on meeting the benchmarks for opening Chapter 23, which relates to justice and fundamental rights. This part of the negotiations also concerns Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it disciplines Serbia's conduct in relation to the prosecution of war crimes. Serbia will no longer be allowed to play the role of a regional policeman, writes Patria.

Serbia cannot claim regional jurisdiction. Until now, it has abused the possibility offered by international law and, in combination with its problematic war crimes law, initiated proceedings against people from BiH and Croatia. This is how Tuzla resident Ilija Jurišić was tried, and many defenders were falsely suspected and arrested at borders.

The European Union is seeking regional cooperation in the prosecution of war crimes. It requires the avoidance of judicial conflicts in the area of prosecuting war crimes. War crimes must be treated and prosecuted without discrimination and fabrications, with false witnesses and planted false evidence.

Serbia is required to cooperate unconditionally with the Hague Tribunal. It persistently refuses to extradite three high-ranking officials of Šešelj's Radical Party, who are accused of intimidating Tribunal witnesses. This puts an end to attempts at historical revisionism regarding everything that happened in the territory of former Yugoslavia from 1992 to 1995, writes Patria.
