Session lasted 11 hours, Vučić says Serbia may not be able to avoid sanctions against Russia

(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated in the Serbian Parliament that Belgrade may have to impose sanctions on Russia.

“I am not thrilled about it, but I don’t know how long we can hold out without imposing sanctions. We are paying the price for not having imposed them, but that is a matter of political commitment of our leadership,” said Vučić, as reported by N1 Serbia.

He said he immediately made it known that he does not like anything in the European Union’s proposal regarding the resolution of the Kosovo issue.

“I presented the worst details of the agreement to highlight the gravity of the situation,” Vučić stated.

“The unbearable lightness of irresponsibility haunts our people,” said Vučić, noting that running a state requires immense responsibility.

Members of the Serbian Parliament began a new extraordinary session today, during which Vučić presented the Report on the negotiation process with Pristina. The session lasted 11 hours.

The report was formally submitted to the MPs by the Serbian Government, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, and the Office for Coordination Affairs in the Negotiation Process with the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Pristina.

After Vučić’s address, a debate began. During the afternoon, an incident occurred in which opposition and ruling party MPs pushed and insulted each other in front of the bench where Vučić was sitting.

The continuation of the parliamentary session is scheduled for Friday.
