Relations cooled due to missiles: Croatia cannot humiliate Serbia

The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Nebojša Stefanović, stated today that there are no immediate threats of terrorist attacks in Serbia and that citizens can feel safe, because compared to most other countries in the region, "we do not have spillover of instability," reports the BH News Agency Patria.

Stefanović told TV Pink that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is strengthening its capacities and that citizens should know that there is a force that can protect them and care for their safety.

He stated that the Service for Combating Terrorism and Extremism holds daily meetings with the prosecution and the BIA, where information from the field is analyzed.

The minister reiterated that data exchange must be increased, given that the security services of countries must cooperate down to the last detail to predict an attack.

According to him, in accordance with the amendments to the Law on Police, a new special anti-terrorist unit is being formed by merging PTJ and SAJ, which will be even stronger and more capable of responding to any kind of threat from terrorism.

Stefanović also emphasized that work is being done on modernizing weapons, as well as on procuring a larger number of vehicles.

Serbia will not allow anyone to threaten its security, the minister reiterated, adding that work is also being done on strengthening military capacities.

- Our job is to respond reciprocally and to protect the country's security, Stefanović said.

Commenting on the statements of the outgoing Croatian Minister of Defense regarding the procurement of weapons, he said that Serbia desires the best relations with its neighbors.

- However, when some people think that procuring missiles is a sign of friendship and tell us not to be nervous about it, they are trying to humiliate Serbia. Neither Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić nor the Government of Serbia will allow our country to be humiliated, and we will not allow citizens to feel threatened because someone in the region is arming themselves - Stefanović emphasized.
