Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia are now better prepared and have a greater capacity to fight floods after the devastating floods that hit these countries in May, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced, reports the BH News Agency Patria.
This is the main conclusion of a two-day meeting organized by the WHO, held on November 7 and 8 in Belgrade.
About 30 participants from various key state institutions from the flood-affected countries discussed several topics, including the removal of animal carcasses, soil cleaning, disinfection, and security. They exchanged experiences on successes and challenges encountered during floods from a health perspective.
Several topics were identified as common to these three countries, including monitoring:
- strengthening emergency preparedness and capacity, joint simulation exercises, and Standard Operating Procedures;
- strengthening inter-sectoral and cross-border coordination and cooperation;
simplifying the import of humanitarian goods in emergencies;
- improving the state's crisis communication capacity.
