(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated for the Financial Times (FT) that he does not object to Serbia selling ammunition to intermediaries who then sell it to Ukraine, and that he is aware of US government reports that ammunition from Serbia is ending up in Ukraine.
- Is it possible that this is happening? I have no doubt that it is possible. What is the alternative for us, not to produce, not to sell at all - Vučić told FT.
Pentagon documents, which were leaked to the public in March, state that Serbia is one of the countries that agreed to supply ammunition to Kyiv or has already supplied it. Officials in Belgrade denied this at the time.
A month earlier, claims appeared in the Serbian public that at least 3,500 rockets produced in "Krušik" ended up in Ukraine, which Vučić denied at the time.
The newspaper writes that this is a sign that Serbia, a traditional ally of Russia, is turning towards the West. It is recalled that Serbia has not imposed sanctions on Russia for the attack on Ukraine.
Nevertheless, when asked if such a move was aimed at gaining the favor of Western countries, Vučić replied that Belgrade would continue to be neutral.
- But I am not crazy, I am aware that some weapons can end up in Ukraine - he added.
As FT writes, Vučić admits that he is "walking a tightrope" between Moscow and Western countries, but also says that he will not help Russia in the war and that Serbia has joined all UN resolutions that have condemned the invasion.
He also adds that he used to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin every three months, but that is over, and he has not been in contact with the Kremlin for a year - except when receiving visitors from Moscow.
- This has never happened before - admitted the President of Serbia.
Speaking about the situation in northern Kosovo, Vučić told FT that he does not expect a resolution and that the participation of Serbs in the new elections requested by the EU will be impossible until their demands are met - such as the withdrawal of armed Kosovo police from municipal buildings.
FT writes that Vučić is also facing growing anger in the country due to two mass murders a month ago, and that the protests show growing dissatisfaction with the rule of Vučić and the SNS.
Vučić, who is no longer the president of the SNS and announces the formation of a new movement, claims that the protests have not shaken the stability of the government, reports VOA.
