What does Vučić's visit to Srebrenica mean? If he wanted true reconciliation, he wouldn't constantly combine threats, blackmail, and calls for peace. Vučić shot at the citizens of Sarajevo in 1992. Today, when he intends to come to Srebrenica, Sarajevans say: Just don't climb Trebević.
A man who shot at besieged Sarajevo and its inhabitants should have at least some kind of moral qualm when speaking about a crime like genocide.
Vučić's visit to Srebrenica, unfortunately, has no political depth, nor, after all, any special human dimension. Vučić, as he was for Sarajevo back then, is today just a serious security problem for Srebrenica.
Churkin in the Bosnian Pot
The main actors in rejecting the Resolution and the Russian veto were Churkin and Vučić. Churkin is famous for the statement that "Muslims are shelling themselves," and Vučić then threatened the Western military alliance: "You bomb, kill one Serb, and we will kill a hundred Muslims."
Churkin stated before the UN General Assembly on the eve of the vote on the Resolution: "Bow your heads to Srebrenica." And then he vetoed it.
Vučić identically announced that he would bow his head in Srebrenica. Will he bow his head over every one hundred and first Bosniak in Srebrenica.
Brandt knelt before the monument in the Warsaw Ghetto. To bow to the victims of Srebrenica is a metaphor for acknowledging the crime of genocide and repenting. What does bowing one's head mean for Churkin and Vučić? Probably some kind of gymnastic exercises.
On the same day that the Prime Minister of Serbia said he would bow his head to the victims of Srebrenica, his contradictory statement came, for who knows what time: "I will go to Srebrenica with my head held high proudly"...
There is no doubt that he was constantly in direct contact with Churkin. He even admitted to that connection. "When the text of the Resolution is changed, we will change our stance. Russia will change it then too."
Šešelj once said that Vučić studied mass psychology and constantly read books on mass manipulation.
What happened around the Resolution also looked like an endless series of manipulations, an attempt to create tension and chaos for certain goals. One thing today, another tomorrow.
"I am going to Srebrenica, the Resolution will not be adopted," he said after everything, as if he were a traveling salesman.
"I am going to show the difference between us and them, and to show that we are ready for reconciliation."
What is the difference between "us and them"? What is the position of "ours," and what is the position of "theirs"?
Who Shortchanged Milošević
The crime in Srebrenica demands sincere human compassion and a dignified attitude towards the victims. Unfortunately, for some people, manipulating the living and the dead, juggling flattering words for some, and chaotic acrobatics and gymnastics for others is natural. Someone clearly takes pleasure in playing with human souls.
The total panic that prevailed before the vote on the Resolution shows that, unfortunately, territorial gains from the crime of genocide and ethnic cleansing are still more important than any truth and reconciliation.
"Any attempt to undermine Republika Srpska will be met with resistance from Serbia," Vučić admitted the genocidal origin of this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Vučić often speaks of "99.99 percent honorable and honest Serbs." He rounds off others to a hundred with the threat that he will "kill a hundred Muslims."
How can a person speak of percentages of honorable and honest people in his own or any nation? Let's remember Milošević's: "All Serbs and honest Albanians." Then "all Serbs and honest Muslims." Vučić has nationally shortchanged Milošević by one permille.
