Vučić in Brussels: Everyone has their own interests, and Serbia is fighting for its own

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić stated today in Brussels that he had a good meeting with the EU Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Priština dialogue Miroslav Lajčák and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer, and emphasized that he believes the talks in Brussels will yield results.

Vučić said that all important topics were discussed and that the official Belgrade-Priština dialogue continues on Monday, as reported by RTS.

"Today we have important meetings of our teams and I believe there will be results," said Vučić, and stressed that the continuation of the dialogue will focus on three key topics - missing persons, internally displaced persons, and the economy, building on part of what was discussed in Washington.

"I have no problem boasting before EU representatives about the Washington agreement and the faster flow of goods, capital, and people. How to use that and how to improve relations, not to see each other as enemies, but to work for the benefit of people, both Serbs and Albanians," said the first man of Serbia.

Europe leads the Belgrade-Priština dialogue 
 

Vučić stressed that these talks are never easy, that concrete matters are discussed, and that the public will be informed of the details once it is clear whether the documents are harmonized and whether an agreement can be reached.

For Serbia, he says, the arrival of the US financing agency and the establishment of a "mini Schengen" are significant.

"Many in the region portray this as Serbian hegemony, but it has nothing to do with that, rather with faster flow of goods, better economic results, and higher wages. That is what we advocate for. If someone likes to live in the past and tries at all costs to see how to oppose another, those are their problems," Vučić stated.

The President of Serbia said that Europe leads the Belgrade-Priština dialogue on all political relations, and that Serbia accepted this earlier.

"Would I have accepted that in 2009? No, but it was voted on in the UN General Assembly. We are on the European path and we trust our European partners," Vučić underscored.

In the continuation of the Belgrade-Priština dialogue, the President of Serbia expects the issue of the Community of Serb Municipalities to be opened and to see whether Priština is ready to fulfill its agreed obligations.

"We understand the political games of others" 

Vučić, in response to a journalist's question, commented on the statement of former Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt that he did not know everything written in the agreement, as well as the photos posted on Twitter by Maria Zakharova, and the assessments of Al Jazeera that this was his most successful week, from the victory in Montenegro to the victory in Washington, and that Serbia was handed the keys to the Balkans, with which, as he emphasized, he would not agree, although it might impress someone.

"Difficult days were ahead of us, difficult days are still ahead of us," Vučić stressed and added that when it comes to his sitting in the Oval Office of the White House, there is no thing they did that one part of the public in Serbia did not speak the worst about.

Vučić also stated that he understands the political games in which someone wants to say that another Muslim country, meaning Kosovo, will recognize Israel, but that one should wait, because first Israel must make a decision regarding Kosovo.

He adds that he would like to see what the Turkish president will say to Hashim Thaçi or Avdullah Hoti if they open an embassy in Jerusalem, which is something Turkey holds against Serbia.
